How can we visualize massive geo-located data in a global scale? How can we retain richness of information without compromising legibility?
The visualization presents how different nationalities travel around the world and vice versa, how are different countries visited by other nationalities. We call the first type outgoing mobility, and the latter incoming mobility. Connections between particular countries are represented with lines, colored in red for outgoing flow of travelers and blue for the incomers to a country. Intensity of connection corresponds to the number of particles visible along a line. More particles indicate more Twitter users traveling from their home country to a given abroad destination.
This project is based on the Global Arms visualization created by Google Data Arts Team.
