There is a continuous flow of reports, studies and trend analysis that attempt to describe the technology augmented future. But what if we wanted to explore not only the logical and rational nature of plausible futures but also how they feel? What are the narrative options for doing so without falling in the trap of science fiction story telling?
We explored the use of portraits to tell stories of individuals in a data and sensor-driven world. We asked an engineer, a writer and a photographer to visit the late 2020’s, to meet the people who live there and ask them to pose for a portrait. The images capture their jobs, passions and fears but they are also snapshots of normality in some not-so-distant future.
